Spring: the season begins
In spring there's often still snow on the peaks, while everything down by the lake is already green. The sun warms the ground more strongly again, and that creates thermals. They can make your flight longer, but they also make the weather more changeable. So in spring, plan a backup day in particular.
Summer: lots of flying days, calm mornings
Summer has the most flying days, and Lake Ossiach is at its most beautiful colour. Thermals are strongest around midday. If you want a long flight, choose the Thermal flight. If you like it really calm, take the Early bird flight early in the morning, when the air is at its calmest.
After the flight you can stay right where you are: free lake access and the lido are next to our landing field in Bodensdorf.
Autumn: clear views and colours
In autumn the air is often stable and clear. The forests around the Gerlitzen change colour, and on good days you can see far across the mountains of Carinthia. It gets cooler at take-off, so bring a warm jacket.
Winter: long views and snow
We fly in winter too, when the weather allows. There's no separate winter flight: the Panorama flight and Thermal flight run all year round. In winter we choose between the Gerlitzen and our second site at the Dreiländereck (Three Countries Corner), depending on the weather.
At take-off it's about 10 to 15 degrees colder than at the lake, plus the wind from flying at about 40 km/h. Gloves, a hat under your helmet and a windproof jacket make all the difference.
Which time of day suits you?
- Early morning: calm air, ideal for your first flight or for kids
- Midday: more thermals, longer flights possible
- Afternoon: calmer again, often soft light for photos
We agree the exact time with you. On the day, our pilot team decides whether we fly, based on wind and weather.
